Steve Orchard – A Sudden Rush of Calm
After years of delighting us with his wonderful music, ‘A Sudden Rush of Calm’ is the last Steve Orchard release.
This final opus, as with all Steve’s music down the years, impresses, as it drifts effortlessly around you, wrapping you in silken beauty, relaxing your spirits, caressing your soul.
In so many ways, this album epitomises the best in Steve’s music; indeed, it is a journey through the many styles we have come to expect from this prolific composer.
It is as though, in this, his final farewell, he is reminding us of all the different moods and styles he has given us down the years.
Beautiful washes of synths and piano, joyous melodies, rhythms moving gently beneath impressive orchestration and arrangements. The ability to effortlessly switch moods and suddenly take us into epic synth territory, as he does with the dark title track. Its all here, the knack of being able to conjure up moods.
To attempt to define the music, to pigeon-hole it as new age, ambient or anything else is pointless. This is just supremely good music, to be listened to, to be enjoyed and to be celebrated.
Thank you Steve!

Joseph Baneth Allen (verified owner) –
Just finished listening to “A Sudden Rush Of Calm” by Steve Orchard, released by AD Music.
It’s kind of hard to believe, but while we never met in person, Steve and I have been friends now for slightly over 20 years. I had initially reached out to inquire about two forthcoming CD releases of his and Steve, the gracious gentleman that he is asked for my address and mailed me physical copies of the albums in question. It was the start of a long, and what I hope has been for both of us, and beautiful friendship.
So it was with great reluctance that I patiently waited for the release of “A Sudden Rush of Calm” – Steve’s final album by AD Music. Steve is a great musician and his music is simply breathtaking and at times hauntingly inspirational and in “A Sudden Rush Of Calm,” Steve uses washes of synths and piano, joyous melodies, rhythms moving gently beneath impressive orchestration and arrangements to move through a cacophony of musical styles that has enchanted and enthralled his numerous fans over the years.
My favorite tracks on this; sadly his latest and final album are: “Midnight Matins,” “The Haywain,” “Scansion,” “Book Of Shades,” “Last Dream Before Bedtime,” “Tactile Sculpture,” “Safely Home,” “A Sudden Rush Of Calm,” and “Tarragon Heights.”
While I will miss looking forward to new releases by Steve in the future, I do want to say thank you to him for giving and still giving me many wonderful hours of listening to his brilliant music!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
A HUNDRED STARS!
