  1. Amazon review

After hearing the especially beautiful “Beijing” on Spinner.com I clicked to discover this masterwork. Whether listening in the background at work, or focusing on this music and the powerful images it evokes, I found it a great source of peace, focus, and inspiration. If you need a time to carve out a peaceful rest in a busy life — and want to take a great tour of beautiful images — some you didn’t even know you could conjure — tune in to David Wright and “Dissimilar Views”. I loved it.

  2. Macromusica

  3. Sequences

Davids 9th release incorporates the acclaimed music from the aborted ‘Korce Project’ album, as well as other new material. Already hailed as his best album too date, it certainly is his most disciplined.

‘Legend Of the Tundra’, recorded at the 2nd EMMA festival and based loosely on ‘Taiga’ (from Between Realities, AD5CD), is vintage DW with an optimitic theme but with frenetic interludes which provide welcome contrast.
‘Beijing’, originally conceived during the ‘Ocean Watch’ sessions certainll evokes an inscrutable Chinese flavour. But my highlight is ‘Rysheara’, a beautifully understated piece with simple sequencer rhythm but evocative melody. Curiously, it’s all over too soon and the repeat button is hit again. ‘Cosmicon’ also emerged from the improvisations at the 2nd EMMA festival and is more impressionistic whilst retaining the DW melodic trademark. ‘Albania’, the main theme is more uptempo with busy sequencers, symphonic treatments and flutey synth.

The melancholic ‘Smiling Shadows lie’ features an effective saxaphone lead and suitably invokes the sadness of the Albanian children. ‘Korce’ is strident, celabatory and unpredictable. ‘Room of Dolphins; is minimalistc and features hypnotic piano artpeggios which succesfully instill tranquillity, as does ‘Boarders of Colour’, which again utilises effective saxaphone treatment. ‘Bennys Theme’ returns David to his his melodic roots with a gentle, poignant sound before the more uptempo ‘Albania part 2’ returns in modified form.

Another reworked piece ‘Love Remembered’, is unashamedely a return to Davids early ‘Reflections’ style of wide eyed romanticism.while ‘Returning Tides’ is stylistically similar to ‘Rysheara’. The 17 minute epic ‘Dissimilar Views’ is dedicated to those who prefer more ‘esoteric’ music. taken from the 2nd EMMA performance, it will appeal to those who prefer the ambient ‘Beyond the Airwaves’. As always, a generous 79 minutes offering gives fans value for money and some of his best music to date, with a little more variation than previous outings and to match the content is the effective cover design.

Note to iOS uses

Apple  iOS up to and including iOS 8 won’t download zip files in Safari. The easiest way around this is to download the zip files onto a computer and then open the zip and transfer the tracks into iTunes (just drag the folder onto the iTunes icon in the dock). Then sync the iOS device to iTunes in the normal way.

Alternatively, there are apps in the Apple App store that will open zip files directly on your iOS device (iPhone/iPad).
