Callisto

Callisto electronic music is David Wright & Stephan Whitlan but began as a David Wright & Dave Massey project. The two Davids combined their respective trademark skills, merging striking melodies with strident rhythms and sequences. And the aim of Callisto (Mk2) continues; to produce fresh and original electronic music. A shared aim is to reference the classic traditions of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk and Vangelis.

The 2004 debut CD `Signal to the Stars’ was hailed by the music press as “a classic electronic music masterpiece”. The album contained melodic, thematic music so lovingly associated with those aforementioned luminaries. The darker, edgier follow up CD ‘ NYX’ was released in 2010 and spawned the concert recording ‘Live at the Hampshire Jam’. It featured lengthened, alternative versions from the NYX album.

Neill ‘Geigertek’ Fellowes joined David Wright for Callisto concert performances during 2010 – 2013. Dave Massey left the music scene in 2013 to pursue photography and Callisto remained dormant until 2023.

However, in 2021 David Wright and Stephan Whitlan released “The Reflecting Sky”. It was not intended or promoted as a ‘Callisto’ album, but it clearly followed the mood and style of the previous Callisto albums. With Stephan’s electronic music sensibilities replacing those of Dave Massey’s, the Callisto connection was clear.

So, when the album ‘Either Side of Reality’ was conceived in 2022, David Wright made the decision to continue the Callisto legacy and Callisto Mk2 was born.
